Axiom's $10 million fee for a queue you can't skip
On Robinhood Chain, Axiom adds a "Priority" payment to trades. The chain says no fee can move a transaction ahead. The payments go to a wallet in Axiom's own app, and they've passed 3,900 ETH.
On 29 September, MidCurveMortal posted that Axiom "has charged traders over $10M in fees for a feature that does NOT exist": a "Priority" payment on Robinhood Chain trades that, he says, can't do what its name promises. He cited a tracker, axiom.exposed, and Robinhood's own docs. We checked the parts that can be checked.
The payment is real. When someone trades a Robinhood Chain token through Axiom, the trade goes to Axiom's router contract, and inside it a separate transfer, often 0.003 ETH, goes to one wallet: 0x5693…C55BD. That address is written into Axiom's web app, in its Robinhood Chain settings. Since mid-July the wallet has received about 3,922 ETH, some $10.6 million at Tuesday's price. It has sent 3,262.75 ETH to one wallet and 555 ETH to another, and held 105 ETH on Tuesday afternoon.
The name is the problem. Robinhood Chain's documentation says its sequencer is first-come, first-served, "where the order is determined strictly by the arrival time at the sequencer," and that "no transaction can bypass others by paying higher fees." A second page is blunter: "Priority gas auctions do not exist here; consequently, increasing your fee will not shift your transaction ahead of others already in the queue." A priority fee in the usual sense, paying more to go first, isn't something the chain sells. And this payment doesn't go to the chain at all. It goes to the wallet in Axiom's app.
Axiom's fee documentation covers its percentage trading fee and, for Solana, a priority fee paid "to validators to increase the likelihood of a faster confirmation." It doesn't mention Robinhood Chain, ETH, or this payment.
What the payment might buy instead: on a first-come chain, getting to the sequencer sooner is the only way to be first, and a trading app could sell a faster route. A third-party site describing Axiom's settings calls the option an "Express Lander"; Axiom's own docs don't. If Axiom's answer is that the fee pays for speed of delivery, not position in line, we'll print it.
We asked Axiom at 1:18 PM ET on 29 September, by DM to @AxiomExchange, what the Priority payment gets a Robinhood Chain user, whether it's on by default and where it's disclosed, and where the money goes after that wallet. Axiom had not replied by publication at 2:43 PM ET. We'll add its answer when it comes.
- What the Priority payment buys, if anything. Axiom hasn't said, publicly or in its docs.
- Whether it's on by default. The tracker says it is; we haven't confirmed that in Axiom's app.
- Who controls the two wallets that received 3,817 ETH from the fee wallet. Both are ordinary wallets that passed the money on.

The claims, checked
who said it, and what the evidence shows“Axiom has charged traders over $10M in fees”
The wallet hard-coded in Axiom's app for these payments has received about 3,922 ETH since mid-July, roughly $10.6 million at Tuesday's price. The payments arrive inside users' trades through Axiom's router.
“Robinhood's documentation explicitly states that paying higher fees CANNOT let one transaction jump another”
Robinhood Chain's docs: "no transaction can bypass others by paying higher fees," with order "determined strictly by the arrival time at the sequencer." A second page adds: "Priority gas auctions do not exist here." None of the chain's docs mention an express-lane auction.
“an "option" that does nothing”
It can't buy a place in line; the chain doesn't sell one, and the money goes to Axiom's wallet, not the network. Whether it buys anything else, such as a faster route to the sequencer, only Axiom can say, and it hasn't.
“Axiom defaulted users into paying priority fees”
The payments are common: thousands of trades carry them. We haven't confirmed in Axiom's app that the setting is on by default, and asked Axiom.
